Hotels Near Lisbon Airport: Walk to Terminal 1 or Base in Parque das Nações?

The short answer
Hotels near Lisbon airport make sense for a late landing, a dawn flight or one night in transit: Meliá Lisboa Aeroporto and Star inn on Rua C are 320 m and 331 m from the Terminal 1 metro entrance, about 6 minutes on foot. For a longer trip, skip them. The metro stops at 01:00, the area is offices and access roads, and Baixa is about half an hour away by metro, so a city break belongs in the centre or Parque das Nações.

Who it suits, who should skip it
Good for
- Travellers landing after the metro closes at 01:00 who want a bed without a taxi into town
- Anyone on an early departure from Terminal 1 who wants to walk to check-in
- Transit passengers with a single night between two flights
- Terminal 2 flyers (Ryanair, Wizz Air, Transavia and others) who need the Terminal 1 shuttle before sunrise
- Travellers catching an early train at Oriente, three metro stops from the terminal
Skip it if
- First-time visitors who want to walk out of the door into Alfama, Baixa or Chiado
- Anyone staying more than a night or two: every outing starts with a metro ride of about half an hour
- Travellers who want restaurants and evening life outside the door: 1 bar is mapped within 250 m
- Anyone who would mind aircraft and road noise: these hotels sit beside an operating airfield
Hotels near Lisbon airport: which to book
Verdict first: if the airport is the reason for the night, book one of the pair of hotels on Rua C, across the access roads from Terminal 1 arrivals. Meliá Lisboa Aeroporto is 320 m from the metro entrance outside arrivals and Star inn is 331 m away, both about 6 minutes on foot. They are the only Lisbon airport accommodation in this guide you can reach on foot with a suitcase, which is the whole point of sleeping here.
Everything else inside the 2,200 m radius needs a vehicle. Holiday Inn Express Lisbon Airport on Rua da Guiné in Prior Velho is 2,022 m away, Moov Lisboa Oriente in Olivais Sul is 2,083 m, and Stay Hotel Lisboa Aeroporto and B&B Hotel Lisboa Aeroporto on Rua Vasco da Gama in Portela are 2,095 m and 2,178 m. The straight-line walk estimates of 33 to 36 minutes are not real routes: the airfield fence and the motorways around it are in the way, so treat these as a short taxi ride.
Hotels near Lisbon Portela airport you can walk to
Meliá Lisboa Aeroporto and Star inn stand side by side on the north-east side of the terminal, and both give their address as Rua C at the airport. Star inn says on its own website that it also runs a free shuttle between Terminal 1 and the hotel around the clock: leave arrivals by exit 2, walk into car park P2 and call the hotel from the blue pillar.
Booking one of them for a Terminal 2 departure? Terminal 2 has no metro station and handles departures only, for Eurowings, Norwegian, Ryanair, Transavia, Volotea, Vueling and Wizz Air. A free airport shuttle leaves from the Terminal 1 departures area for a ride of a few minutes, but it does not run between 01:30 and 03:30, and Terminal 2 itself is closed from 00:30 to 03:30. Add that hop to your morning.
Hostel near Lisbon airport: Bairro da Encarnação
Both mapped hostels are in Bairro da Encarnação, the residential estate on the north-east side of the airfield; Encarnação is the first stop on the red line after Aeroporto. Lisbon Hostel Terminal 4 on Circular Norte do Bairro da Encarnação is 1,117 m from the airport metro entrance, and the second hostel, on Praça das Casas Novas, is 1,291 m, about 19 and 21 minutes on foot as a straight-line estimate.
This is a housing estate, not a visitor quarter. The point of sleeping here is a bed and a short hop back to the terminal by metro or taxi, not an evening out. If you land after the metro has closed, take a taxi rather than trying to walk the route around the airfield in the dark with luggage.
Lisbon airport to the centre: metro and taxi times
Aeroporto station on the red line is in the Terminal 1 arrivals zone and is open from 06:30 to 01:00. Trains reach Oriente, the mainline station in Parque das Nações, in three stops, and Alameda in about a quarter of an hour. For Baixa, Rossio and Chiado, change at Alameda to the green line; the whole run to Baixa-Chiado takes about half an hour. A taxi to the centre takes about a quarter of an hour without traffic.
That ride is the cost of every outing from an airport hotel, and over a few days it adds up. Parque das Nações is the obvious compromise for a short stay: on the river, three metro stops from the terminal, with mainline trains from Oriente to the rest of Portugal. For a first visit built around Alfama, Baixa and Chiado, sleep in the centre instead.
Night noise near Lisbon airport: aircraft, not bars
The mapped nightlife count is as low as it gets: 1 bar within 250 m of the metro entrance, no pubs and no nightclubs. Only the north and north-west ring samples have a venue nearby, 1 each. These are counts of mapped bars, pubs and clubs, not noise measurements, and they say nothing about aircraft.
The sound you will notice here comes from the airfield and the roads that feed the terminal, not from late-night crowds. If that matters to you, ask for a room on the side facing away from the runway and the approach roads, and keep a pair of earplugs in your hand luggage for the first night.
Walking with luggage around Terminal 1
The sampled elevations run from 83 m to 106 m, a 23 m range. The highest reading is at the terminal anchor itself, and the elevation model is a surface model that includes buildings and raised roads, so it overstates any slope. Treat it as a terrain sample, not the gradient of your walk to Rua C.
Walk times in this guide are straight-line estimates from the metro entrance, not routed journeys. For the Rua C pair that is realistic, about 6 minutes with a wheeled case. For anything beyond the airfield fence it is not, and the metro or a taxi is the only sensible way to get there.

- Night-noise risk counts places tagged as bars, pubs and nightclubs in OpenStreetMap within 250 m: low under 8, medium from 8 or with any nightclub, high from 25 or with 3 nightclubs. It counts mapped venues; it does not measure sound.
- Walking times take the straight-line distance, add 30% for the street network and assume 80 m a minute, rounded up. They are estimates, not routes.
- Climb is the spread between the highest and the lowest sampled point in Copernicus DEM GLO-90 via the Open-Meteo Elevation API. Terrain models average the ground into cells, so a few metres either way are within their error.
- Searched on 25 Oct 2026: the metro within 1.2 km, hotels within 2.2 km. A place missing from OpenStreetMap is missing here too.
Questions and answers
Which hotels are closest to Lisbon airport?
Meliá Lisboa Aeroporto and Star inn, both on Rua C, are 320 m and 331 m from the Terminal 1 metro entrance, about 6 minutes on foot. They are the only mapped hotels in this guide within walking distance of the terminal.
Are there Lisbon airport hotels with a shuttle?
Star inn says on its website that it runs a free shuttle between Terminal 1 and the hotel around the clock, called from car park P2 near exit 2. Holiday Inn Express Lisbon Airport in Prior Velho lists a shuttle that is charged separately. For any other hotel, confirm the shuttle directly before you book.
Is there a hostel near Lisbon airport?
Yes. Lisbon Hostel Terminal 4 and a second hostel on Praça das Casas Novas are in Bairro da Encarnação, 1,117 m and 1,291 m from the airport metro entrance. Encarnação is the first red-line stop after Aeroporto, so a taxi or one metro stop gets you back to Terminal 1.
Where should I stay near Lisbon airport for a Terminal 2 flight?
Stay on Rua C and allow time for the free shuttle from the Terminal 1 departures area, because Terminal 2 has no metro station. Terminal 2 is closed between 00:30 and 03:30, and the shuttle does not run between 01:30 and 03:30.
Is it better to stay near Lisbon airport or in the city centre?
Near the airport for one night around a late landing or an early flight; in the centre or Parque das Nações for anything longer. Baixa-Chiado is about half an hour from the airport by metro, with one change at Alameda.
