Compare mapped nightlife around Barcelona stay areas
The short answer
For the fewest mapped nightlife venues, choose Sants Estació, with 1 within 250 m, or Sagrada Família, with 4. Both suit travellers who want a rail or basilica base away from dense bar clusters. Skip La Rambla, which maps 31. The catch: counts are mapped venues, not measured noise, and ring samples show clusters a short walk from each anchor.

1. Barcelona Sants
Barcelona Sants
Barcelona Sants maps 1 bar and no pubs or nightclubs within 250 m, the lowest count of the six anchors. The nearest metro is 71 m away, a 2-minute walk. Ring samples reach 19 venues to the south-west, so a cluster sits a short way off.
2. Sagrada Família
Sagrada Família
Sagrada Família maps 3 bars, 1 pub and no nightclubs within 250 m, 4 in total. Ring samples run only from 3 to 9, with the south-west sample the highest. The nearest metro is 74 m away, a 2-minute walk.
3. Plaça de Catalunya
Plaça de Catalunya
Plaça de Catalunya maps 4 bars, 2 pubs and 2 nightclubs, 8 in total within 250 m. Ring samples rise from 5 in the north to 29 in the south-west, so the direction you sleep towards matters. The nearest metro is 36 m away, a 1-minute walk.
4. Passeig de Gràcia
Passeig de Gràcia
Passeig de Gràcia maps 7 bars, 2 pubs and 1 nightclub, 10 in total within 250 m. The north and north-west samples each reach 28, while the east sample maps 4. The nearest metro is 45 m away, a 1-minute walk.
5. el Barri Gòtic
El Barri Gòtic
El Barri Gòtic maps 12 bars and 1 pub within 250 m, 13 in total, with no nightclubs. The south-east sample reaches 41 while the north-west sample maps 7. The nearest metro is 255 m away, a 5-minute walk, the longest of the six.
6. La Rambla
La Rambla
La Rambla maps 18 bars, 11 pubs and 2 nightclubs, 31 in total within 250 m, the highest of the six anchors. Even its lowest ring sample, to the north, maps 9. The nearest metro is 18 m away, a 1-minute walk.
Reading the mapped counts
The table counts bars, pubs and nightclubs that OpenStreetMap places within 250 m of each anchor. Sants Estació maps 1, Sagrada Família 4, Plaça de Catalunya 8, Passeig de Gràcia 10, el Barri Gòtic 13 and La Rambla 31.
This is a mapped-venue proxy, not measured noise. It says nothing about opening hours, venue size or which way a room faces, and unmapped venues are missing. Use it to sort areas, then ask a hotel about the position of a room.
Where clusters sit around each anchor
Each anchor has eight compass samples, and they differ more than the headline counts. Passeig de Gràcia runs from 4 in the east sample to 28 in the north and north-west. El Barri Gòtic runs from 7 to 41, La Rambla from 9 to 38 and Sants Estació from 1 to 19.
The samples are measurement points, not named streets, so they show direction only. Sagrada Família has the narrowest spread, 3 to 9, which makes its count less dependent on which side of the anchor you choose.
Metro walks and sampled terrain
Metro walks are estimates from the anchor, not hotel journeys: 1 minute at La Rambla, Plaça de Catalunya and Passeig de Gràcia, 2 minutes at Sagrada Família and Sants Estació, and 5 minutes at el Barri Gòtic, where the metro is 255 m away.
Terrain is the sampled elevation range, not route climb. Sagrada Família spans 28 to 64 m, a 36 m difference and the widest. Plaça de Catalunya spans 20 to 33 m, the narrowest at 13 m. Passeig de Gràcia spans 46 to 66 m, Sants Estació 34 to 50 m, La Rambla 13 to 29 m and el Barri Gòtic 13 to 28 m.
How we compared
Counts come from OpenStreetMap venues tagged bar, pub or nightclub within 250 m of each anchor, queried through Overpass. Ring samples use eight compass points on a 400 m radius. Walking minutes apply the street-grid detour allowance and walking pace stated in the published method, measured from the anchor. Elevation comes from Copernicus DEM via Open-Meteo. Hotels were not assessed; this compares areas only.
- Night-noise risk counts places tagged as bars, pubs and nightclubs in OpenStreetMap within 250 m: low under 8, medium from 8 or with any nightclub, high from 25 or with 3 nightclubs. It counts mapped venues; it does not measure sound.
- Walking times take the straight-line distance, add 30% for the street network and assume 80 m a minute, rounded up. They are estimates, not routes.
- Climb is the spread between the highest and the lowest sampled point. Terrain models average the ground into cells, so a few metres either way are within their error.
Questions and answers
Which Barcelona stay area maps the fewest nightlife venues?
Sants Estació maps 1 bar and no pubs or nightclubs within 250 m, the fewest of the six anchors. Sagrada Família follows with 4. The count is a mapped proxy, so confirm room position with the hotel directly.
Is La Rambla the most nightlife-heavy area mapped here?
Of these six anchors, yes: La Rambla maps 31 venues within 250 m, made up of 18 bars, 11 pubs and 2 nightclubs. Its lowest ring sample, in the north, still maps 9.
Does a low count mean a room will be free of late-night sound?
No. The count covers mapped bars, pubs and nightclubs only, not street activity, traffic or the direction a room faces. A ring sample outside the anchor can hold far more, as Sants Estació shows with 19 to the south-west.
